The Cloisters were suffering from serious damage to voussoirs and other elements of this fine
building, due to a subsiding foundation. By the nature of its design the building has always had to
contend with differential movement. Using a well researched, revolutionary cast aluminium pile has
given the piers some "assistance" rather than the solid hard spot created by under pinning. The
process is easily reversible if ever found necessary.
The shiny cast aluminium piles are driven into the ground using
lightweight handheld equipment. In this case each pier required
1 metre length sections, in 3 positions. The pile heads are then
tested and connected to the original foundations using 10mm twisted
stainless steel rods.
A reinforced ring beam is then cast in concrete and the ground made good, ensuring nothing of the
exercise remains visible.
These helical piles are a product from one of our Partners, Target
